SnapCalorieBurn estimates how many calories an activity burns from three inputs: the activity's MET value, your body weight, and how long you did it. Pick an activity, enter your weight and duration, and you get an instant estimate — no account, no tracking, and the calculation runs entirely in your browser.
Every estimate on this site uses one formula: Calories = MET × body weight (kg) × duration (hours). A MET value describes how much energy an activity costs relative to sitting still, so the same activity costs more calories for a heavier person and for a longer session. Intensity matters just as much as duration: brisk walking and strolling are different MET values, not the same walk.
Reference scenario — not your own numbers. Every figure below is for a 155 lb (70 kg) adult doing 30 minutes of the activity, calculated with the same engine the interactive calculators use. Enter your own weight and duration for a personal estimate.
| Activity | Intensity used | MET | 30 min |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walking | Moderate (3 mph) | 3.5 | ~123 cal |
| Running | Moderate (6 mph, 10 min/mile) | 9.3 | ~326 cal |
| Cycling | Moderate (10–12 mph) | 6.8 | ~238 cal |
| Swimming | Freestyle, moderate effort | 7 | ~245 cal |
| Yoga | General studio class (mixed pace) | 3 | ~105 cal |
| Climbing Stairs | Fast, continuous climbing | 8.8 | ~308 cal |
| Cleaning | Moderate (vacuuming, mopping) | 3.3 | ~116 cal |
| Sleeping | Asleep | 0.95 | ~33 cal |
Worked example. Walking at a moderate 3 mph is MET 3.5. For a 155 lb (70 kg) adult walking 30 minutes: 3.5 × 70 × 0.50 h ≈ 123 calories.
These are estimates, not measurements. The number changes with how hard you actually worked, your body composition and fitness, terrain and equipment, and normal day-to-day variation in metabolism. Figures are gross calories, meaning they include the energy you would have burned at rest during the same period. Treat any single figure as a good ballpark, not a precise count.
MET values are taken from the 2024 Adult Compendium of Physical Activities. Where a specific activity has no matching entry, SnapCalorieBurn uses a documented representative value and says so on the page rather than implying the number was sourced.
